Welcome to MitoMission
MitoMission exists to raise awareness and support research for a cure to Mitochondrial Disease. Inspired by our son and the many others that suffer from the disease. We’re here to use social media to raise awareness and funds for mito. You can learn more about us on the about us page.
The Faces of Mitochondrial Disease

Carter has struggled with the impacts of this disease since birth. He’s now a smiling, charming 5 year-old, but still suffers greatly from the negative repercussions of this incurable disease.
You can learn more about Carter’s battle with Mitochondrial Disease on the about us page.
What is Mitochondrial Disease?
Mitochondria are in nearly every cell in your body – they are the “powerhouse”, producing nearly 90% of the energy your body uses. When a person has Mitochondrial Disease the mitochondria in the cells are not producing enough energy for the cell. Sometimes they do not work at all, and sometimes they are just not very efficient. If a cell does not get enough energy it cannot function properly. There is a huge variety in the symptoms and severity of Mitochondrial Disease. It depends on how many cells are affected, and where they are in the body – so every person with Mitochondrial Disease is affected differently. Each individual affected will have a different combination of mitochondria that are working and not working within each cell, and therefore their disease will present different symptoms. Read more at the Learn about “Mito” page. There is no cure to Mitochondrial Disease – We want to change that!
The MitoMission Challenge
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to donate $1. Then challenge 10 (or more) of your friends to each donate $1.
Yes, only a dollar – if every adult living in the United States were to donates $1, we would raise over $240 million… that would go a long way to advance Mito research. How many of you will accept the MitoMission Challenge?
